An eight-legged, orange octopus called Flinto. They do not necessarily reflect the views of. #flintoclass #flintobox #flintoclassreview #flintoboxreview Disclaimer: The opinions expressed in this post are the personal views of the author. Remember, no activity box can beat a parent determined to fill their child’s early years with fun and excitement! Good ol hide-and-seek, playing in the mud or storytelling work wonders in the early years. You’d be better off designing your own activities as per your observations of your child and building connections with real life. If you’re looking for a particular philosophy(like Montessori) or a more in-depth curriculum on early education, they’re not at par. The themes- “My Body”, “Animals”, “Nature” are something that the child can relate to.Ī lot of the activities, however, were close-ended and teacher/parent led which left little scope for the child to innovate and create. They go by the phonics method and teach the actual quantities and not the symbols. My Final Take- The Flinto kit is better than your traditional pre-school which teaches the child by rote-learning without setting the foundation first. ![]() He did enjoy the activities but only partly-he’d do it for a few minutes and then something else would demand his attention. Although he would tell me to play- ‘Aunty’ towards the end of the course, he hardly watched them. It’s one of the better ones I’ve tried so far.įun- As I’ve mentioned earlier, Nirvin did not enjoy the online classes. But I was satisfied with the efforts that have been put by the Flinto team in designing the kits. That’s the major reason I follow and make others follow Right Brain Education.Ĭoming back to the point, although I did see Nirvin picking up on a lot of things while doing the activities there was not a major change on the surface. I have always focused on giving lots of stimulation to Nirvin without expecting him to recite the alphabet or count down till 100. Ironically, the adult in him will not remember a thing about those years-the conscious brain-that is. Never again will he be able to just download everything in his mind. The wealth of information and experiences the child gets in the first few years will govern his whole life. You have to trust that they’re spreading their roots deep within that’ll help them hold their stead later in life. Just like you don’t see the sapling for a long time after you sow the seed, same is with the young child. Meaning that all the learning is happening subconsciously. Learning- The 0-3 year old child is called the “The Unconscious Worker” by Dr. So how did the subscription fare on the two parameters I was judging it on-Learning and Fun? Re-Subscription- We did not re-subscribe as the activities were getting a little repetitive and we needed some free time to try new things. Some puzzles and a few other items though, I’ve saved. Since every child is different, I wouldn’t necessarily call it age inappropriate.Įngagement- All the activities are designed for one-time use-so don’t expect the kit to keep your child engaged for a long time. I did feel that most of the activities were a little too advanced for his age-especially the instructor led classes which were extremely long for a 2 yr old. The painting activities involved different media which he liked-but he didn’t understand why he had to only colour within the lines and why only a specific colour for a specific object(The sky is pink!:)) ![]() The kit also has a lot of close-ended craft kits which were mostly done by me with a little bit of help from him. Most of their activities involve peeling and sticking which he enjoyed. He does, however, get excited when he sees me opening a new activity kit. He didn’t show much interest even in the animated rhymes. ![]() ![]() Nirvin’s Response- Since I didn’t have time to watch the videos beforehand, I would just play the video in the evening and let him play around while the video was running in the background(I also do that with flashcards sometimes as children are still learning through their other senses). And you need the videos for a detailed explanation on how to use the kit. Subscription Time- The program needs to be completed within a stipulated time(4 months for a 3 month course) after which the online subscription expires. ![]()
